Dear
Guest,
It's an exciting time at Old West!
This year marks our 20th anniversary (more on
that in a future issue) and we are making some
exciting changes. We're adding lots of new
products, like our complete line of Mad
Millie(tm) cheesemaking supplies, have
completely updated our web site and are now on Facebook.
Plus, it's springtime in the Rockies.
Our thoughts turn to warmer weather and the
great outdoors, Spring Break and
casting off the winter blues. We have
some great beer and wine specials that fit right
into the season. Read on!

Help for Your Beer Gut
 With warmer weather comes
thoughts of lighter clothes, swimsuits and...
beer bellies. Want to drop a few
pounds but not give up your treasured
homebrew? You can make some progress by
following a little age-old advice.
Watch what you eat.
According to Dawn Jackson Blatner, a registered
dietitian and a spokeswoman for the American
Dietetic Association, beer and food go
together. "Beer's making people eat
supersized pieces of pizza or burritos as big as
your head," she said. Skipping fatty bar
foods like deep-fried anything, and eliminating
high-calorie junk foods can help. Eating
sensibly can also help. Don't skip
breakfast, and eat more frequent, smaller
portions to keep your metabolism running
high.
Exercise. According
to Dr. Donald Hensrud, chair of the
division of preventive medicine at the Mayo
Clinic, specific exercises might not target your
beer belly, but when you do start shedding
pounds, you "...tend to lose it a little
bit more readily around the middle." Good
exercises for burning fat include 30 minutes a
day, a few times a week, of walking,
running, cycling and swimming.
So get out there, have fun, eat smart,
and reward yourself with a cold
homebrew! |
